
Functional diagnostics service of the Healthcare Institution “The 4th City Clinical Hospital named after M. Saŭčanka” has been operating since the foundation of the hospital. In the office, electro- and phonocardiograms, spirograms, and a study of the basal metabolism were performed.
In 2001, the department was headed by Kačan T.I. At that time, the department began to introduce new functional methods of heart research: Holter monitoring, 24-hour blood pressure monitoring, treadmill test, transesophageal echocardiography. At the same time, new ultrasound devices were purchased, allowing a research to be carried out at a whole new level.
Currently, the department carries out a wide range of studies of the cardiovascular system: ECG, including drug and cold tests, spirometry, stress tests, such as treadmill test, bicycle ergometry, Holter monitoring, 24-hour blood pressure monitoring.
Ultrasound examinations comprise half of all examinations in the department: echocardiography, including transesophageal echocardiography, ultrasound examinations of blood vessels.
In 2003, due to the opening of the department of vascular surgery, the method of ultrasonic duplex scanning with colour mapping of peripheral vessels, an aorta and its branches, brachiocephalic vessels was mastered and applied.
